What Midnight Novels collects, why, who else handles it, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it.
The short version
No reader data is sent to any AI model: the library is written before you arrive.
We collect what we need to run Midnight Novels, to take payment and to stop abuse.
You can delete your account at midnightnovels.com/delete-account.
Midnight Novels does not sell your personal information and sends nothing about you to any advertising company.
Who we are
Midnight Novels is operated by Odin Studio Inc., a Canadian federal corporation, corporation number 1815990-4, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
Odin Studio Inc. decides how your information is used and answers for it. Questions go to support@midnightnovels.com.
What we collect
Before you have an account
A random id, kept in a cookie. It lets us remember what you tried for free and what you bought in this browser. It is our own cookie.
What you do in Midnight Novels, such as opening the price page or starting a payment. Our own server writes this down beside the random id.
Your internet address, your country and your browser type. Every website receives these. We use them to stop abuse and to show the right price.
If you arrive from an ad or a tagged link: which ad, which search word and which page you landed on, and the click code the ad added to the address.
When you pay
The email you type for your receipt.
What you bought, the amount, the date and the last 4 digits of the card.
Your internet address and browser type at that moment. Card companies ask sellers to keep these to fight fraud.
Your card number goes to the payment company. We do not keep the full number.
If you buy a plan that renews, we keep the record that you ticked the box. It holds the exact words shown, the time and your internet address.
When you make an account
Your email address. That is the whole account. No password, ever.
A sign-in session, so you stay signed in on that device. Signing out deletes it.
The codes we email you. We keep only a scrambled copy that cannot be read back. A code works for 10 minutes.
What Midnight Novels itself handles
What we collect: your email, what you read, your coin balance and spend, your device and IP address. In the app, we also collect the comments you post and the name you choose, and other readers see both.
How: at checkout and while you read.
Why: to run your account, prevent fraud and answer disputes.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it: see Delete my account in Your account.
What we do not do
There is no analytics vendor, no advertising network and no tracking pixel on any page here.
No third-party trackers, no advertising identifiers, no cross-site profile.
No selling or sharing of your records.
There is no password to collect.
We do not keep your full card number.
What we use it for
To run Midnight Novels for you and keep your account working.
To take payment, send receipts and send the emails that come before a renewal.
To answer you when you write to us.
To stop fraud and abuse, and to answer a bank when a charge is questioned.
To count what is used, so we can fix Midnight Novels and make it better.
Who else handles it
We use other companies to run Midnight Novels. Each one gets only what it needs to do its job for us.
Payments. Your payment is taken by Stripe and Braintree, who tell us if it worked. With each charge we send them your email, your internet address, our id for you, what you bought and how long you have been a customer. Card companies use these to check that a charge is real.
No reader data is sent to any AI model: the library is written before you arrive.
Banks and the law. If you question a charge with your bank, we send the bank our record of the purchase. We give information to a court, the police or a regulator only when the law makes us.
Ads
Midnight Novels sends nothing about you to any advertising company. No advertising company's code runs on these pages.
How long we keep it
Your account, and what Midnight Novels saved for you: until you delete it or delete your account.
A sign-in session: until you sign out or it runs out.
An emailed code works for 10 minutes. We keep only a scrambled copy of it.
An ad click code: 7 days.
We keep payment records only as long as tax law requires. In Canada that is six years from the end of the tax year a record belongs to.
Your choice at Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information: we keep it so that it keeps working.
We also keep the record that you agreed to your plan's renewal, for three years or one year after your plan ended, whichever is later, because the law asks us to.
Your choices
Delete your account. Open midnightnovels.com/delete-account. This deletes your account, your email and everything Midnight Novels saved for you.
See or fix what we hold. Write to support@midnightnovels.com from the email on your account. You can ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, and ask us to correct it. We answer within thirty days. There is no charge.
Stop sharing with ad companies. Use the link Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information at the bottom of every page. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, that counts as turning this on.
Stop marketing email. Every email from us has an unsubscribe link. It works in one tap, with no sign-in. It stops marketing email only. A sign-in code, a receipt and a renewal email still send.
Children
Midnight Novels is for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think someone under 18 has used it, write to support@midnightnovels.com and we delete what we hold.
Where it is processed
Odin Studio Inc. is a Canadian corporation. Midnight Novels and the companies named above may keep and process your information on servers outside Canada and outside the country you live in. That means it can be subject to the laws of the country where it is stored.
